Local Cuisine

The Skyros traditional cuisine is rich and interesting. Boasting fresh ingredients, palatability, nutritional value and wisdom of traditional recipes handed down from generation to generation. Base is traditional Greek and Aegean cuisine, with regional dishes from ingredients produced on the island.
 
Local produce

Skyros is famous for its fresh fish, seafood, lobster, etc. prepared and cooked in the moment with special recipes.

Livestock and dairy products are also well known for the quality and taste.

Restaurants and taverns cook delicious lamb chops, lamb and goat braised or baked, local sausages, kontosouvli, gardoumpes, intestines.From cheese stands out graviera, with the spicy taste, fresh and dry cheese and ksinotyri, beautiful white soft cheese from goat's milk with a slightly sour taste and texture of yoghurt.
 
 Renowned are the local pies:

- Oil pie, made with dough fluffy and served with skyrian cheese.
- Teropitaria (frumenty, rice and cheese)
- Trachanopites, custard,  ricepies.
 
Other characteristic traditional dishes of skyrian cuisine:

-Agalipokeftedes Made by agalipes,a kindof sea anemones,
-Rooster with red sauce,
-Taftitsa A kind of local mushrooms fried and served with garlic.
-Manites,  mushrooms which are collected from the forest and eaten grilled
-Fava With fennel
-Sweet and sour frumenty
 
Sweets

Everywhere taste sweet pan and spoon, donuts, pancakes, baklava, the local nougat, handmade sweets, honey, jams, herbs etc.

Xirotigana-large loukoumas- with a hole in the middle with fragrant honey. With this sweet skyrian people made invitations for a wedding or christening.

The local honey, mainly pine and thyme is delicious and healthy.

Where to Eat

Skyros has many taverns that serve both both fish and meat. Most are open all year. Food is famous on the island. The distinguished dish is lobster spaghetti.

You will find many taverns at the port. In the town you will find traditional kafenes, which offer great food. There are many taverns and restaurants in Magazia, Molos and Gyrismata.

Crossing Skyros mainland, there are many taverns on the road, worth a try. Many also have local products.

Night Life

Mostly the night life, during winter and summer, takes place in Skyros Town. At the central square you will find mostly bars. But many can be found crossing the main street, upwards.

During the summer, the beach bars are open, where you can combine swimming, eating and drinking.The Windmill in Pouria, which operates in an old windmill, between the ancient quarry and the stunning church of Agios Nikolaos is great for drinks and comfort food.

Drinks can be enjoyed at Kavos in Linaria, which welcomes the boat with the music of So said Zaratustra or as mostly known, Space Odyssey. If the boat arrives in the evening, it distributes sparklings to welcome the boat. In the morning you can enjoy breakfast and swim at the sea.
